Spring Cleaning: 5 Cleaning Tips for your Backyard

Winter is finally starting to fade and spring is arriving in it’s place. With the warmer weather comes the time-honored tradition of spring cleaning. While you may think of spring cleaning as just tidying up your garage and putting your sweaters back in storage, your backyard needs some love during this time too. Backyard spring cleaning helps you prepare for outdoor entertaining (one of the best parts of the warmer months!), makes your yard more enjoyable, and is an essential part of preparing for your garden planting.

#1 Clean out and organize your shed

When you’re clearing unwanted junk out of the garage, don’t forget your garden shed as well! Spring is the perfect time to clean it out, give away or sell unused items, clear the cobwebs and make it more organized. To do this, consider putting in shelves, tool hangers, and other storage solutions that fit the way you use your shed to make it easier and more convenient to quickly find your needed items.

#2 Clean your patio furniture and cushions

If you keep your patio cushions in a deck box or closet during snowfall, they may stay fairly clean but it is still a good time to check them and see if they are in need of cleaning or repair. Take a saturday to oil wood furniture that requires that type of care, strip and stain wood furniture that is getting older, or repaint metal furniture before they’re used again.

#3 Clean your gutters

Now it is time to clean your gutters, since the snow, ice, and wind can fill them with leaves and debris. Often, sticks and other items have been frozen in them all winter long and won’t come out on their own. You want your gutters clean and clear before the rainy spring season arrives or else they’ll get backed up quickly.

#4 Clean your fire pit

If you have been using your patio fireplace or backyard fire pit throughout the winter, it is probably time to give it a good cleaning and safety check. This will make your outdoor living areas look cleaner and make sure your next season of entertaining is just as fun. It will also help ensure the safety of your family and guests while it sits dormant.

#5 Trim your trees

Regular tree trimming can prevent property damage as well as injuries to you and your family. After winter, there is probably cracked branches that are in danger of falling. This proper pruning will reduce the weight of a tree, making it less likely to fall from the weight of heavy snow on dead branches.

However necessary, this tree trimming is dangerous, time-consuming, and labor-intensive. Unlike cleaning out your garage, you shouldn’t attempt to do it alone! Bring in the experts at Land Pro Landscaping to help with all of your tree care needs. We serve Akron, Kent, Mogadore, and many other parts of Ohio.
